Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Prince Charles Hospital for a Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the Prince Charles Hospital Laboratory with experience working in the NHS.
The post holder will be expected to work as part of a team, as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment. They will certify analytical and technical validity of investigations, liaising with Clinical and Biochemistry staff to ensure diagnostically abnormal results are acted upon urgently. The post holder will also be expected to work on rotation to the various routine and specialised sections within the Laboratory, be capable of working unaccompanied and be accountable for the quality of work produced. The post holder will maintain personal and professional development and competency to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff development and training.
Main duties of the job
The Biochemistry department has a large test repertoire processing approximately 5 million tests per year. We are well equipped to provide an efficient high quality diagnostic service. Our equipment comprises Roche Cobas 8000 systems with fully tracked c8100 pre analytics, Roche 6000 and Roche Integra, IDS iSYS, HM-JACKarc, Optilite, Tosoh G11, HPLC, Agilent LCMS, Varian AA), Siemens Immulite, Roche b123 blood gas analysers and Sebia Electrophoresis (Capillarys / Hydrasys).
The Department is research active, working with clinical and academic collaborators from different Universities in several research fields, to include biomarkers, point if care testing, bio-informatics and Endocrinology
As Clinical Biochemistry is a multi-site service you will be afforded the opportunity to work at both hospital sites as staff rotation within the service provides the opportunity to develop more specialist skills.The post is full time 37.5 hours per week. Once appropriately trained, participation in the 24 hour shift system will be required, for which appropriate AFC enhancements are paid.
