Ward 5 at Prince Philip Hospital is looking for Band 3 Nursing Support Workers to join our dedicated team on a busy 26-bedded Diabetes and Endocrine ward. This is a key role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients with a wide range of acute and chronic endocrine conditions, including complex diabetes management.
We are seeking compassionate, motivated individuals who are committed to providing safe, patient-centred care and supporting people through often challenging health journeys. You will work closely with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to maintain a therapeutic environment, promote patient independence, and uphold dignity and respect at all times.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with clinical tasks, monitoring patients, supporting daily living activities, and contributing to accurate documentation and effective communication. You will also play an active role in patient education, particularly around diabetes self-management.This role is ideal for someone proactive, organised, and eager to develop their clinical skills. You will have opportunities to expand your knowledge of diabetes care, endocrine disorders, and specialist procedures while working within a supportive and dynamic team.
There will be a requirement to cover a 24 hour service to patients in the clinical area.
Main duties of the job
- Band 3 Nursing Support Worker provides direct patient care, supporting individuals with washing, dressing, toileting, mobility, and the safe use of equipment.
- They help maintain patient comfort, dignity, independence, and emotional wellbeing throughout their stay.
- They carry out delegated clinical tasks such as taking and recording observations, monitoring blood glucose levels, completing urinalysis, collecting specimens, performing ECGs if trained, and providing simple wound care under supervision.
- They report any changes in a patient's condition promptly to registered staff.
- They work closely with the multidisciplinary team to support admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow while helping to maintain a safe, clean, and organised ward environment.
- They document care accurately and communicate clearly with patients, relatives, and colleagues.
- They contribute relevant information during handovers within their scope of practice.
- They support patient education by reinforcing information provided by registered nurses and encouraging patients to understand and engage in their own care.
- They follow infection prevention and control procedures, maintain cleanliness, and escalate any safety concerns.
- They participate in mandatory training, develop their clinical skills, and contribute to quality improvement through reflective practice
