Consultant in General Medicine with interest in Geriatric Medicine

Job summary

To provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate), a service in Geriatric Medicine and support the development of sub-speciality interests to the hospitals and community so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

Main duties of the job

To share the responsibility for the acute care of patients based at Prince Philip Hospital supported by trainee and non-training doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.

To support the development and delivery of Care of the Elderly service in the hospital and in the community. To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's agreed objectives. To develop and deliver a comprehensive 7 days service for the Geriatric Medicine/General Medicine services.

To ensure the provision and delivery of a first class clinical service

To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
  • Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.

  • Additional Higher qualification(s).
