Job summary
A post is available to work within the Osteoporosis team in Prince Phillip Hospital.
The post holder will provide specialist pharmacy services to patients within agreed guidelines, which will include reviewing new and existing patients. Reviews may be carried out either virtually or in a face-to-face clinic.
The clinics will involve informing and guiding patients regarding the benefits and side effects of various pharmaceutical interventions, empowering them to make the best decisions for their own management.
Main duties of the job
The Osteoporosis Service provides specialist bone health management to the population of Carmarthenshire, ranging in age from late teenage years to the very elderly. Our patient-centred practice aims to help patients to make decisions that are right for them.
The applicant for this additional post will work closely with the existing team, managing their own caseload, reviewing new and existing patients and participating in case discussions as required. Osteoporosis Services are developing rapidly within the Health Board and include a Health Board wide Fracture Liaison Service. We offer a full range of bone health treatments, including non-oral anti-resorptive and different types of anabolic therapy.
This post will offer applicants wide-ranging opportunities for development of clinical expertise in the assessment and specialist management of osteoporosis and other conditions affecting bone health, such as Paget's disease and steroid-related bone loss. Other potential areas for development include verbal and written communication skills, virtual working in an outpatient setting, audit and quality improvement projects, and educational opportunities tailored to the post.
