Job summary

We deliver respiratory and sleep diagnostics and ongoing sleep treatment and support to patients throughout the Hywel Dda University Health Board area. We are looking for two enthusiastic, motivated individuals who can work flexibly to support the range of services the team offer. This will involve working alongside qualified staff and working independently to deliver services within a varied work schedule. Attention to detail and accurate record keeping are essential abilities. One post to be located at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli and the other at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be supported to gain the skills and qualifications required for this role.

The main duties of the role are to support the clinical physiology team in the provision of respiratory and sleep investigations. The postholder will work independently, within their scope of expertise, providing routine investigations such as ECG's, lung function testing and the preparing, issuing and downloading of sleep monitors. The postholder will be able to analyse simple sleep data and will be able to recognise when escalation to a senior member of staff is required in all areas. They will deliver practical teaching and supervision to students and healthcare professionals in areas where they have knowledge and expertise. Duties include working with qualified staff during complex procedures such as exercise testing and challenge testing, ensuring patient safety and accurate monitoring. They will work with the team by performing basic clinical observations, with fitting CPAP masks and by providing administrative duties. The successful candidate will demonstrate the skills and flexibility to manage their own time and organise their daily activities to meet the numerous demands of the role.

However, applicants not meeting all the essential criteria within the Person Specification are still invited to apply, and if successful would be appointed under the All Wales Annex 21 rules. They will be supported for a period of up to three years by a development plan to achieve the knowledge, skills and qualifications required to meet the essential job specifications, whereby 65% of the top of the Band 4 would be payable during the first year, 70% during the second year and 75% during the third year. Following successful development, the post holder will then be paid at Band 4 (minimum point on the scale).
