Job summary
The Community Dental Service (CDS) in HDUHB is a Salaried Dental Service providing Oral Health Care Services to vulnerable client groups in line with the Welsh Health Circular WHC/2022/022 (The role of the Community Dental Service).
The post-holder will be responsible for providing clinical dental care at consultant level and leadership in the sphere of Paediatric Dentistry. The post-holder, in conjunction with the Clinical Lead, will take a clinical leadership role in further developing Paediatric Dentistry within the Community Dental Service and will be responsible for the provision of advanced clinical dental care for children with learning difficulties, physical disabilities, mental health problems, medically compromising conditions, severe anxiety or phobias and other disabilities or conditions which directly or indirectly affect oral health.
The post is based on 6 sessions a week including 5 Direct Clinical Care Sessions and one session to Support Personal Professional Activity.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be the Health Board's internal clinical expert and reference point for paediatric dental services and will work with the Clinical Lead and Operational Manager to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
Reporting professionally to the Associate Medical Director for Dental, the post-holder will assist with any clinical matters relating to paediatric dentistry and undertake duties as delegated by the Clinical Lead. The post-holder will also attend relevant external and internal clinical networks. Where necessary, the post-holder may be involved in initiating and maintaining such networks.
The Consultant will be managerially responsible to the Clinical Lead and will assist, as required, in the day-to-day operational activities of the Community Dental Service. He /she will be expected to take the lead on the delivery of care to paediatric patients and will need to travel between sites as required. The Consultant will also be involved in the development, training and supervision of community dentists.
