Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time post within our Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nursing service.

The post holder will be supported to provide a holistic approach to care of the child, young person and family from diagnosis through active treatment, follow-up, and if necessary, palliative care and bereavement care.

The post holder will develop knowledge and skills to provide a highly specialist resource for, and liaise with professionals in primary, secondary and tertiary health care setting, and also provide a specialist resource for other agencies working with the child and family i.e. Education Services, Social Services and Voluntary agencies.

Main duties of the job

The Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist (POONS) supports the Professional Nursing Lead for the care co-ordination of children and young people with Oncological Conditions within West Wales.

The post holder will develop expert professional and clinicalleadership in the nursing and management of these patients supporting the families and other professionals involved in their care.

The post holder works with the lead specialist developing expert specialist knowledge and skills in co-ordinating care with the support of the multidisciplinary team, Children's Community nursingteam, in-patient ward, day case and Paediatric outpatient departments as well as providing as much care as possible within the patient's home.

The post holder will participate in planning the future strategy of the service and the provision of professional advice to thenetwork.

Essential

  • RNCB Diploma/ Degree in Paediatric Nursing studies
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience in speciality
  • Paediatric Oncology Nursing qualification, ENB 240 course or equivalent
  • Teaching & assessing qualification.
  • To be chemotherapy assessed and competent or willing to update.
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance.

Desirable

  • BSc (Hons) Community Health Studies - Community Children's Nursing
  • Bereavement / counselling qualification
  • Understanding of Budgets / Budgetary management
  • Willingness to work towards acquiring the Masters' Degree in Paediatric Palliative Care

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working with children with complex needs
  • Demonstrable experience within Paediatric Oncology
  • Multidisciplinary working.
