Are you an Ophthalmic Nurse, Optometrist or Orthoptist looking for a new challenge?
The Ophthalmology department in Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to recruit experienced ophthalmic practitioners to undertake an exciting challenge and train to become an advanced practitioner within the Intravitreal Therapy service.
Previous ophthalmic experience is essential. Nurses currently undertaking specific ophthalmic qualification will be considered, but extensive experience will be considered as well as a desire to train, in the absence of formal evidence of learning.
Flexibility is essential for this role, as is the ability to travel between sites in a timely manner. The successful applicant must be comfortable working independently, but always within their own scope of practice and within a team.
Workplace base will be defined dependent on the location of this service closest to applicant's home address, but the role entails travelling across sites - the frequency of which is dependent on other staff available and service needs and cannot be fixed.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will participate in the organisation of the IVT service, including working closely with the AMD coordinators to ensure optimisation of clinical times and management of waiting list.
Be able to participate in all the testing required for patients within the IVT service.
Be able to clinically assess and provide treatment by means of an intravitreal injection/implant to patients within the IVT service, following medical guidance and treatment protocol.
To demonstrate highly developed clinical skills when treating patients by means of intravitreal injection where accuracy is of paramount importance and there is no margin for error.
To take an active role on developing own knowledge, skills and competencies, adhering by service training programme, participating in own PDR and maintaining a professional portfolio.
To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing expert advice to colleagues, patients and carers as required, aiming to promote health and independence, and prevent disease.
To behave in a professional manner at all times, adhering to uniform protocol, maintaining high standards of care and by applying a range of interpersonal skills when addressing patients/carers/other professionals.
