Trauma - Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

The Trauma and Orthopaedic team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our established trauma and orthopaedic team at Withybush Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience working within Trauma and Orthopaedics. Applicants will need to demonstrate to have worked at band 6 level or above.

We are looking for nurses who are forward thinking and strive for the highest standards of care, providing specialist trauma knowledge to patients, ward staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The role will include collecting, supporting data collection and validation for National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD), interpreting the data and working with the current Trauma CNS, Planned Care Team and Withybush Site Team in quality improvements projects to improve and sustain compliance with the Key Performance Indicators set out in the NHFD.

The applicant will need to have an understanding of the South Wales Major Trauma Network and the current pathways for trauma services across South Wales.

The successful candidate will lead and develop pathways specific to trauma, supporting and facilitating safe and effective management group (this includes patients who sustain hip fractures). from admission to discharge.

This role is part time and the applicant will be expected to work 15 hours over 2 days. (2 days at 7.5 hours).

Main duties of the job

To work in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of high standards of nursing care.

To be responsible for the daily monitoring of inpatients on the Trauma ward after surgery to ensure that they are progressing as planned and liaise accordingly with the relevant medical team.

To participate with the Trauma Coordinator and Operating Theatre staff, in the coordination of urgent trauma surgery according to the outstanding Trauma List of patients awaiting surgery, availability of equipment, surgical time, etc.

To facilitate and support a culture that understands and meets the specialist and complex need of trauma patients, whilst ensuring that the performance targets, such as decreased length of stay, are met.

To facilitate effective patient pathway coordination through collaboration with relevant services to ensure timely, appropriate and safe care

To expedite clinical intervention for all trauma patients and to achieve the clinical standards as detailed in the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD).

Provide education and training to staff working in a Trauma setting, including nursing teams, students (nursing and medical), therapy teams, and community services as required.
