Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking a dedicated and experiencedRedress and Legal Services Manager to join our Legal Services Department. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in patient care and legal governance within the NHS.

You'll be part of a supportive team, working across the Health Board to support the management of clinical negligence, redress cases and personal injury claims.

Main duties of the job

This pivotal role supports the management of clinical negligence, personal injury claims, and redress cases in accordance with the NHS (Concerns, Complaints and Redress Arrangements) (Wales) Regulations 2011.

You will work closely with solicitors, clinicians, and managers to ensure timely and effective resolution of cases, while contributing to policy development and service improvement. You will also support Court of Protection and Inquest work with the inhouse Solicitor and Counsel team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Law degree (or CPE or equivalent)
  • Post graduate qualifcation
  • ECDL or equivalent information management/administrative qualification. Abillity to work on databases and to type at a reasonable speed.
  • Knowledge of medical negligence law
  • Knowledge of the NHS complaints and claims procedure and associated relevant legilsation
  • Knowledge of WG guidance on the management of concerns and redress
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in an administrative or customer services environment
  • Experience of handling difficult situations and finding resolutions to problems
  • Confidence in dealing with senior managers
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public in difficult and demanding situations, which require a sympathetic and sensitive approach
  • Experience of writing concise and effective reports at Board level
  • Formal minute taking
  • Experience of data input and producing reports from databases
  • Experience of conflict resolution
  • Ability to monitor and report on performance against targets.
  • Experience of working autonomously and self directing
