Senior Pharmacy Technician Pain Team - Medicines Management

Job summary

Due to the current post-holder being seconded into another role, Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join the Medicines Management Pharmacy Pain Team for a temporary period until end of March 2026. This team currently consists of 2.4 WTE pharmacists and one Pharmacy Technician, who work closely with the multidisciplinary HDUHB Chronic Pain Service to help patients better manage their chronic pain conditions. This is an innovative wide-ranging role that will challenge and provide opportunities for you to develop as an individual and to extend the role of the Pharmacy Technician within a specialist niche area.

Main duties of the job

This is a fantastic opening that will allow you to develop a rapport with patients, to support them along a journey and to help them to better manage their chronic pain condition. You will also be responsible for supporting and advising GP Practices to review patients with chronic pain with the aim of reducing risk, improving quality and promoting cost effective and prudent prescribing. Education and learning are other key elements which will provide you with opportunities to deliver training sessions to GPs, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other health care professionals when needed.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, have a confident professional manner and be keen to learn and develop your expertise. Although experience in Primary Care or Pain Management is not essential, possessing the enthusiasm to work autonomously across both primary and secondary care is essential as is the desire to develop in an evolving field. You will also work closely with the other pharmacists and pharmacy technician in the pain team as well as those from the wider Medicines Management Team. You will also work closely with the clinical psychologists, specialist physiotherapists, and specialist nurses in the Chronic Pain Service.

Although the majority of the patient consultations are conducted over the telephone you will work across the Health Board therefore the ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential.
