An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Public Health Medicine / Consultant in Public Health to join Hywel Dda University Health Board's Public Health Directorate, serving the communities of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire.

This is your chance to lead on some of the most important issues in public health - the health impacts of climate change, and the urgent need to improve chronic disease pathways for an ageing population. You'll be central to shaping system-wide strategy, workforce development, and service transformation, embedding prevention and equity into everything we do.

You'll work closely with the Executive Director of Public Health and senior leaders across the Health Board, while also contributing to national workstreams. The role requires strategic thinking, political skill, and the ability to influence across boundaries.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant in Public Health Medicine/Consultant in Public Health will:

Provide public health leadership, advice, and support to improve population health outcomes.

Develop partnerships and influence agencies for broad participation in health improvement initiatives.

Work to reduce inequalities through effective local and regional partnerships and community engagement.

Contribute to developing integrated strategies and needs assessments with local authorities and the voluntary sector.

Take responsibility for policies, programmes, services, projects, and interagency plans to deliver public health priorities.

Plan and develop high-quality, equitable services within evidence-based and ethical frameworks across primary and secondary healthcare, and social care.

Utilise information and intelligence systems to support public health actions across disciplines and organisations.

Collaborate with the senior leadership team of the Health Board to support public health priorities through needs assessment, service planning, improvement, and governance activities.

Provide local leadership to enable national public health developments.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.
