Job summary

The Podiatry/ Orthotics Service within the Health Board is looking for enthusiastic Podiatrists. There is also a strong emphasis on completing our Band 5 rotation scheme working in MSK and Diabetic clinics maintaining your own caseload within this specialist area.

Hywel Dda has a strong emphasis on developing staff. We have 5 independent Prescribers, 5 Ultrasonograhers, fully developed POMs implementation, CMATs and Vascular service, and staff working in MIU.

Main duties of the job

To work at band 5 level predominantly within the high risk and MSK clinics supporting higher grade staff in the diagnosis and treatment of lower limb pathologies.

Able to interpret the signs and symptoms of systemic disorders as they manifest in the lower limb and foot with particular reference to diabetes, vascular, rheumatoid arthritis and other arthropathies.

Podiatrists should be able to assess for cardiovascular and dermatological disorders, and be able to identify infections, neurological, developmental and malignant disorders.

  • Assurance of professional knowledge as evidenced by 1st degree level qualification or equivalent
  • Competent to apply local anaesthesia techniques as Certified under the medicines Act 1968
  • Registered with HPCP
  • Evidence of attendance on relevant core continuous professional development courses

Desirable

  • Member of Society of Podiatrists

Experience

Essential

  • Managing a caseload which would include any foot or foot related condition and having the experience to be able to know when to refer on to the highly specialist clinic. For example this would include recognising peripheral vascular disease, leading to tissue necrosis and gangrene or being able to recognise clinical infection and recommend the correct course of action including antibiotics or further investigations
  • Evidence of autonomous practice
  • Inter-professional Team working
  • Direct involvement with carers and families
  • Evidence of supporting service compliance with clinical governance

  • Evidence of student supervision

  • Negotiation of multidisciplinary working practices
