Reporting on a daily basis to your Clinical Care Group Service Director, these are key senior operational leadership posts for the development of a strategic and operational model of fully integrated and aligned services across the service group, balancing the multiple domains of improved patient quality, safety, experience and access whilst ensuring value for money within available resource.

These roles will provide a fantastic development opportunity for anyone that wishes to apply for more senior leadership roles in the future.

Main duties of the job

As a Service Group General Manager, you will lead on long term planning for services, have accountability for management and monitoring of budgets, manage and inspire staff, be responsible for the performance of the group and contribute to the development of national and local priorities.

You will have experience of operational management and leadership previously, as well as a proven track record of delivering projects. Flexibility, resilience, and innovation are key attributes that we need from the successful candidates to lead and develop strategies for their service group that aligns with Hywel Dda Health Board's overall strategic plans.

About us

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.

Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire, Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.

Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).

Community facilities, including:

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

  • System Service Group General Manager Pembrokeshire System

The successful appointee will be responsible for the delivery of community and acute integrated medicine services within the county of Pembrokeshire, including the countys community and acute hospital sites. You will be accountable for a budget of circa. £50m and be responsible for 983 WTE staff. Working as part of a triumvirate the role will be crucial in the delivery of our ambitious vision for an Integrated Urgent Emergency Care across the system, ensuring we deliver sustainable, high quality and high performing services.

  • System Service Group General Manager Ceredigion System

The successful appointee will be responsible for the delivery of community and acute integrated medicine services within the county of Ceredigion. You will be accountable for a budget of circa. £37m and be responsible for 631 WTE staff. Working as part of a triumvirate the role will be crucial in the delivery of our ambitious vision for an Integrated Urgent Emergency Care across the system, ensuring we deliver sustainable, high quality and high performing services.

  • Service Group General Manager Children, Women and Family

The successful appointee will be responsible for the operational delivery of children, women and family services across the Health Board. You will be accountable for a budget of circa. £54m and be responsible for 879 WTE staff. The role presents an exciting opportunity for anyone wanting to develop their operational management experience and career, leading a number of key services across a whole health board footprint, with a focus on delivering high quality and high performing services for women and children in Hywel Dda.
