Job summary

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Finance Analyst to join a team supporting the costing agenda within the Health Board.

The post holder will be required to interpret the costs and analyse patient activity of the services it provides on a secondary and primary care basis.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop and enhance their data analysis skills, where they will integrate data from diverse sources, ensuring consistency and completeness with the aim of supporting better decision making within the Health Board through uncovering new insights which will improve healthcare for our local communities.

Main duties of the job

This role supports the Assistant Finance Business Partner (Values) and main duties include:

  • Assist in the preparation of the Health Board's Annual Costing Returns (including Programme Budgeting and Functional Benchmarking Returns) to Welsh Government in accordance with guidelines and specified deadlines.
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of financial management / costing systems to support the use of Patient Level Costing / Service Level Reporting.
  • Work with colleagues in finance, informatics and service areas to improve the quality and consistency of data to support these systems and ensure that cost drivers are fully understood.
  • Analyse and assess Hywel Dda costing results with other NHS Organisations in Wales and highlight opportunities that can improve service delivery.
  • Investigate, analyse and advise on costing issues to a range of staff both clinical and non-clinical across the Health Board.
  • Support the Assistant Finance Business Partner in the promotion of costing data to help inform decision making processes by senior clinicians and service managers across Hywel Dda.
  • Support benchmarking systems, processes, and promotion of benchmarking throughout the organisation.
  • Attend All Wales Costing Technical Meetings and implement any agreed recommendations internally.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
