Hywel Dda University Health Board and Carmarthenshire Local Authority presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to join our Adult community mental health team (CMHT) in Llanelli.

As a team, we have an excellent reputation for our recent innovation and leadership to unite, transform and evolve our services according to the changing needs of our population.As a versatile postgraduate, you will need to have knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions, complex manual handling, and knowledge in diverse conditions, as well as a good understanding of current issues affecting community and hospital services.Successful applicants will require an excellent ability to work autonomously, managing and prioritising a diverse caseload, be a highly self -motivated proactive person, with drive and initiative.Please note, we are not able to offer this post to Newly Qualified OT's.

Main duties of the job

You will be able to demonstrate an aptitude and ability to work with clients with mental health needs and to be proactive in developing your clinical skills and competencies, within this specialist field. You will demonstrate a clinical understanding of holistic, client centred care and effectively contribute clinically to multi- disciplinary team discussions and service development.You will be working collaboratively with the patient, their family / carer and the third sector. This is pertinent in developing services to improve the health and wellbeing of this client group. As part of this, you will be implementing recovery principles to include recovery through activity groups. You will play a key role in capturing Occupational Therapy (OT) outcome measures to demonstrate the value of OT intervention in terms of its effectiveness in treatment, rehabilitation and preventing hospital admission.You will be able to work independently in delivering OT assessment, and intervention.You will require effective communication, organisation and decision making skills with enthusiasm and passion for this specialist field. You will provide clinical support OT assistant practitioners and other members of the team. You will be supported through planned supervision, ongoing personal development plans.

This post is advertised as a Band 6, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 6 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules whereby 70% of the top of Band 6 will be payable in first 12 months, then 75% from 12 months to 24 months.Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within a 12 to 24 month period. Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated time frame could result in re-deployment.

As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up.
