Are you passionate about providing high quality care to patients within the community setting? Would you love to work in the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire? We have an exciting opportunity to work as part of our District Nursing service as a Community Phlebotomist.
This post will involve visiting patients at home, as a lone worker, to obtain blood samples, labelling and transporting samples and completing relevant documentation. Experience of performing venepuncture and the ability to travel around the county in a timely manner are essential for this post.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team, communicating with patients and their families and reporting to senior staff and other members of the MDT as appropriate. Therefore, effective communication skills and the ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy are required.
This post will also involve some administrative duties so good numeracy and literacy skills are a must. In return we can offer a formal induction period, access to training and development and the opportunity to spend your working day travelling around our beautiful county.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To obtain, as requested, blood samples from housebound patients through venepuncture and to ensure these samples are labelled correctly in preparation for being forwarded to laboratories.
Work without direct supervision to support the Community Nursing Team and report back any concerns or changes in condition to the nursing team.
Work as a member of the Community Nursing Team.
Responsible for the effective and appropriate use of resources.
To correctly identify patients prior to taking blood.
To report any discrepancy between request form and the patients details to the GP, Registered nurse, Sister or Senior Sister.Obtain blood samples from housebound patients through venepuncture as requested for testing in the community.
