Job summary
Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking to recruit a Deputy Director of Health Science.
In conjunction with the Executive Director of Therapies and Health Science, the Deputy Director of Health Science will have professional accountability for the Healthcare Scientists (HCS) workforce and will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for HCS and HCS support workers across the Health Board.
This is a corporate professional role and a key member of the Health Board's corporate, operational and clinical structures, representing the voice and contribution of the HCS workforce across the Health Board, locally, regionally and nationally.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide visible and accessible professional and clinical leadership at corporate and operational levels, providing strategic advice, support and drive innovation across the HCS workforce. They will inspire, motivate and empower the HCS workforce to further develop delivery of safe, timely, effective person-centred, equitable and efficient services.
They will be a change agent within the Health Board, translating national strategy into operational delivery, ensuring the HCS workforce contribute to strategic initiatives, promote a culture of learning, and strive for continuous quality improvement with other members of the multi-professional team.
They must have extensive experience working at a strategic level, across a range of services and overseeing complex service change.
They will be a compassionate and inclusive leader, working with other senior leaders (clinical and non-clinical) across the Health Board, and ensure a multi-professional approach to achieving our strategic ambitions whilst demonstrating alignment with the health boards values and behaviours.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 13,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 399,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.
