Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant Respiratory Physician, with a sub-specialty interest to deliver a high quality service for the population of West & Mid Wales as part of a team of consultant colleagues from across the health board.

We are looking for sub-specialty interests to be developed Health Board wide (preferably Asthma /Sleep Medicine).

There is access to medical thoracosopy, EBUS and interventional bronchoscopy, full respiratory physiology including CPEX and provocation testing within Glangwili General Hospital as well as home sleep studies currently mainly in Prince Philip Hospital.

Main duties of the job

This post has arisen due to consultant vacancy within the Respiratory Service across the Health Board, based at Glangwili General Hospital (GGH). This appointment forms part of a network of respiratory medicine across the 4 sites, where you will be expected to have a base-hospitals (GGH) providing respiratory expertise and outpatient clinics. Development of sub-specialty interest is encouraged but not essential.

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board's patients.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements: -

To ensure the provision and delivery of a first class clinical respiratory service

To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate

To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies

To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Health Board's service plans

To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board

The successful candidate for this Consultant post will be eligible to hold an Honorary Academic title at a partner university on the understanding that they will participate in undergraduate teaching, including acting as an examiner, and support and facilitate research activities in an appropriate university faculty and school. They will take direction in these activities via the appropriate academic lead. The agreement to define the Honorary Academic responsibilities and associated programmed activities in relation to teaching time and research will be negotiated jointly between the post holder, the university and the Health Board. It will form part of the successful candidates job plan. The award of the Honorary Academic contract will be dependent upon a formal application being submitted to the university in accordance with the Honorary Appointments procedures and will be available on a fixed term basis subject to satisfactory performance in the academic activity undertaken.
