Job summary
A Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse post has arisen within the Sexual and Reproductive Health Service , Band 6 , 30 hours per week.
We are looking forward to appointing an enthusiastic , motivated and experienced Sexual and Reproductive Health Nurse to join our friendly team.
The post holder will be based at Penlan Clinic in Carmarthen but will be expected to work at Sexual Health Clinic sites across the 3 Health Board Counties as required.
Our busy team see approximately 25,000 patients each year with a mixture of virtual and face to face consultations. We are a paper free service with electronic patient records. We offer a range of services including routine and complex contraception , management of sexually transmitted infections, cervical screening , psychosexual counselling and a pregnancy advisory service .
To supervise and co-ordinate staff at clinics dealing with any complaints or untoward incidents in the first instance, discussing with Senior Nurses as necessary. Present a positive impression of the team and service. Regularly undertakes telephone and video consultations, some of which can be complex and last up to one hour.
We actively encourage our staff to progress and develop new skills and provide training and support in this specialist area of Health care.
Main duties of the job
To provide intermediate level, autonomous nursing care to patients with sexual health and contraceptive needs - to include diagnosis and treatment of STI's and related conditions.
To provide autonomous nursing care to patients with contraceptive needs, using a recognised contraception qualification, and competence at supplying all methods of contraception, and insertion and removal on contraceptive implants.
To utilise specialist knowledge and skills and undertake procedures and practices such as cryotherapy, speculum examination, contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
To undertake Pregnancy Advisory Service Consultations with patients requesting termination of pregnancy, discussing options and giving comprehensive information to ensure safe care.
To care for women having Manual Vacuum Aspiration Abortion procedures.To undertake relevant physical examination and investigations for an undiagnosed patient group.
To regularly undertake consultations with clients who have been sexually abused or assaulted.
Provide emotional support to clients in distressing and emotional situations. To frequently give distressing news to clients e.g. positive test results and examination findings.
To be a credible and approachable role model for junior staff and students - providing clinical support and guidance as required.Regularly travels to sites across the Health Board.
