We have an exciting development in West Wales. We are expanding our team of Psychologists and Behaviour Practitioners and have several vacancies which we are looking to fill.

The Psychology & Behaviour Service believes in putting people with learning disabilities at the centre of everything we do. We strongly believe in Human Rights and advocating for people with a learning disability. Without Psychologists how will people with a learning disability be able to participate and speak up?

We are looking for an 8a Psychologist who is passionate about working with people with learning disabilities, who is enthusiastic and creative in their working. We require a Psychologist who believes in working alongside individuals and their networks to strengthen the individuals preferred identifies and values to enable new possibilities.

You will need to show leadership skills to support the team. You will show skill in undertaking complex assessments, including capacity assessments, risk assessments and neuropsychological assessments. You will be confident working in at least two types of therapy and be able to work with a wide range of mental health issues in people with learning disabilities, their families and the systems around them. You will be able to provide psychological advice and consultation to the wider teams and systems around our clients.

Main duties of the job

We have a team of Clinical and Counselling Psychologists assisted by Behaviour Practitioners who have interests in systemic practices including Narrative Therapy, Compassion Focused therapy, Dementia, Positive Behaviour support and Psychodynamic psychotherapy. We have had a strong focus on reducing restrictive practice and are passionate about improving the lives of people with a learning disability. We believe in working with our local communities and building strong links with families, and provider agencies to achieve positive outcomes for the person at the centre of our care. We are seeking Psychologists who can work as an integral part of the Psychology & Behavioural team and wider Multi-Disciplinary team.

You will be able to provide supervision and clinical governance to others within the service. You will be expected to deputise for the 8b Psychologist when required. You will support service development and assist in enhancing service delivery.

To provide a qualified specialist psychology service to clients, across all sectors of care, to clients in the Learning Disability service in Ceredigion.

To provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy to clients and to regularly provide advice, consultation and training on clients' psychological care to colleagues within the wider service and to those within relevant outside agencies.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

  • Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including psychopathology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
  • Working Knowledge of psychometrics, appropriate administration and limitations.
  • Knowledge of clinical assessment, formulation and psychological treatments as well as knowledge and experience of working in core specialties of learning disabilities, mental health, child and adolescent and older adults at clinical doctorate level.
  • Knowledge of specific methods of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, cognition, behavioural psychology, and lifespan developmental psychology . Additionally, two or more distinct psychological therapies.
  • Post qualification training in at least one area relevant to the post.
  • Additional Specialist training and experience.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariate data analysis practiced within fields of clinical psychology.
