Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Plaster Room Services at Hywel Dda Health Board. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who holds the British Casting Certificate ( BCC ) to join our team as a qualified Orthopaedic Practitioners at Prince Philip Hospital and Glangwili General Hospital . The Plaster Room Department at these hospitals provides a full range of Orthopaedic and Trauma Services to various departments and is the Trauma Centre for Hywel Dda Health Board.

Main duties of the job

As a member of a busy team the successful candidate will provide expert casting and bracing services to the Fracture and Orthopaedic clinics, A/E and MIU departments, Theatres, Wards, Podiatry, and Paediatric Departments. Good interpersonal skills are essential and the ability to work with a range of people (patients, public and healthcare professionals) to deliver safe and effective health care, to promote health and well being and promote and maintain independence. Extensive previous experience working in the casting environment is essential.

The county of Carmarthenshire is a beautiful part of the country with breath-taking scenery close to the towns of Carmarthen and Llanelli.

The position is a Hywel Dda University Health Board wide position but the base will be Prince Philip Hospital.

It is essential that applicants must be available to participate in on- call requirements.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

  • Degree in related subject or equivalent level of knowledge. BOA / RCN / SOTN / AOP Diploma / Certificate in Casting Techniques.
  • Sound knowledge of Fractures and Orthopaedic conditions and their treatments through numerous short courses and accredited study days.
  • Sound knowledge of casting and bracing related techniques and treatments through numerous short courses and accredited study days.
  • In depth knowledge of the Musculoskeletal system
  • Sound knowledge of wounds and wound care management.
  • Recognized teaching qualification and or proven teaching track record.
