Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board are looking to recruit a full time, permanent Clinical Coding Supervisor, to join our existing team to cover both Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen and Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli.

This post is advertised as a Band 5 and ideally candidates for this role must have achieved the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ). However applicants who do not currently hold the qualification for the Band 5 role, are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will need to attain the qualification within 12 months and will be appointed under Annex 21 rules.

This means they will be supported by a development plan. (During the first year payment will be 75% of the top rate of band 5 pay). Following successful passing of the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) the post holder will then be paid at Band 5 (minimum point on the scale). Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 5 role. Failure to achieve the qualification in the designated time frame could result in re-deployment.

Main duties of the job

Candidates for this role must have achieved Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status having successfully passed the National Clinical Coding Qualification.

The Clinical Coding Supervisor will have responsibility for the supervision of the Clinical Coding Teams in Carmarthenshire and for the monitoring of accurate and timely completion of coded clinical data on the WelshPAS System. You will need to have an in-depth knowledge of clinical coding and will be responsible for the in-house training of trainee clinical coders as well as being the first point of contact for any coding queries at your hospital sites.

You will also need to have an in-depth knowledge of medical terminologyand an excellent understanding of the clinical coding standards in both ICD-10 and OPCS-4 .

We are seeking someone who will support our drive for continual improvement. You will have the enthusiasm and drive to adopt a proactive approach to ensuring high standards of coded data. You must be able to evidence your ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. You must also be able to manage a team, supervise their workload, encourage and mentor them to attain Accredited Clinical Coder status.
