Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for not one, but two jobs as Principal Clinical Technologists at two different sites within Hywel Dda University Health Board. The successful candidates would carry the full responsibility for leadership for the Clinical Engineering department, one based at Glangwili General Hospital site in Carmarthen, and one at Withybush General Hospital site in Haverfordwest.

The successful candidate would be responsible for the day to day activities of the Clinical Engineering function for their respective sites. Please view the job description for more details. The role would also involve ownership of specific projects that relate to medical devices. These may develop over time based on the successful applicant's skills and experiences and the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Engineering, the successful candidate would be responsible for the management and oversight for the lifecycle of the medical device under the portfolio of the respective site (circa 30,000 devices across the Health Board). You will lead the team of Technologists, Apprentices, Administration staff and the Equipment Librarian resident at these sites and surround areas. Working with the wider Clinical Engineering team across the 4 Acute sites within the Health Board, you would be responsible to ensure the compliance and performance of the medical devices are maximised, to ensure we can provide the best quality of service we can for our patients.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

  • BSc in Clinical Technology or Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification / experience in Electronics/Clinical Engineering.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in relevant sphere to Masters Level
  • Registered Clinical Technologist and Incorporated Member of a relevant institute

Desirable

  • Anatomy & physiology training
  • Ventilator and anaesthetic technical training

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in a clinical engineering setting
  • Organizational, interpersonal and operational skills needed for post i.e. management of resources i.e. planning and delivery of service provision
  • Ability to produce written and verbal reports pertinent to the post i.e. technical documentation

Desirable

  • Significant post registration, most recently in a speciality dealing with ventilation / anaesthetics
