Job summary

We are delighted to be advertising the role of Professional Lead at this exciting time of service development. We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant psychologist with experience of professional leadership and professional management of psychologists and psychological therapists. The post holder will act as the senior professional advisor to the Health Board on professional issues, practice and workforce development and work closely with general managers who operationally manage psychology teams within integrated services.

The role is Health Board wide. It is hosted within Mental Health and Learnings Disabilities Directorate with direct management support from the Clinical Director of MH& LD as well as direct professional support from the Health Board Executive Director of Therapies & Health Science.

There will be opportunities for professional development particularly with the transformation agenda and partnership working. Excellent support will be provided for the role.

Main duties of the job

Be the professional lead for all Practitioner Psychologists and Psychological Therapists, acting as the primary source of advice to the Health Board and senior managers on the strategic direction for Practitioner Psychologists and Psychological Therapists, the development of their services and service structures, and the effective use of the Practitioner Psychologist resource. The post holder will ensure sound governance systems for the delivery of services by all Practitioner Psychologists and Psychological Therapists and their support staff and advise service managers on policy development and priority areas for Practitioner Psychology and Psychological Therapy service development. They will lead on research and audit activities for Practitioner Psychologists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • Registration with the HCPC.
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology at Doctoral level or its equivalent pre 1996 as accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Formal supervisor training and accreditation.
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Desirable

  • Specialist Psychotherapy qualifications recognised by UKCP, BABCP or BPC.

Experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a Clinical or Counselling Psychology at Doctoral level or its equivalent pre 1996 qualified for a minimum of six years.
  • Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in patient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
