Job summary

To provide advice support and care of women and their families during the preconceptual, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. Provide a full range of health, education and social care advice to women within an integrated model of care covering pre-conception, antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal periods. To provide midwifery care in a range of environments through pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal period for women and their babies. To work autonomously within departmental guidelines and sphere of professional practice.

Main duties of the job

To provide advice support and care of women and their families during the preconceptual, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods

Provide a full range of health, education and social care advice to women within an Intergrated model of care covering pre-conception, antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal periods.

Provide midwifery care in a range of environments through pregnancy, labour birth and postnatal period for women and their babies.

Work autonomously within departmental guidelines and sphere of professional practice.

  • Range of clinical experience during student training including; o Venepuncture- Able to perform venepuncture competently
  • o Suturing-Able to suture with supervision (if required)
  • o Examination of the newborn Able to undertake examination of the newborn following birth and in the post-natal period unsupervised
  • o Homebirth-Able to attend as second midwife
  • o Breastfeeding-Able to discuss and practically apply UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative
  • o Fetal Heart Monitoring-Able to interpret fetal heart deviations from normal and call appropriate help (pinnard/sonicaid) Fetal Heart Monitoring-Able to interpret fetal heart deviations from normal and call appropriate help (pinnard/sonicaid)
