Job summary

The Immunisation Coordinator is the lead nurse in Powys Teaching HealthBoard (PTHB) for matters regarding immunisation. The successful applicant will have a major role in training, service delivery, clinical advice and audit. The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with Public Health forimmunisations. A key part of the role is to support the local delivery plan toachieve the Welsh Government immunisation targets.

Main duties of the job

Provide leadership to improve immunisation services locally

Influence and develop evidence-based standards of care for the immunisation service

Take all opportunities to promote the National Vaccination and Immunisation Programme

Demonstrate effective communication locally using available resources and ensuring full documentation

Develop and maintain professional networks and relationships with colleagues in Primary and Secondary Care, Public Health and Health Protection across the area

Oversee the standard of all relevant material in relation to vaccination and immunisation and advise in appropriate dissemination methods

Receive data and key reports on immunisation uptake that may be complex and sensitive

To liaise on issues of quality and safety with the Quality & Safety Unit

  • Be influential within the organization in matters relating to immunisation
  • Provide detailed advice to other specialist and non-specialist on immunisation matters
  • Develop, support and maintain a network of immunisation mentors to deliver competency skills
  • Promote up to date evidence-based practice regarding immunisation issues throughout PTHB

  • Work closely with the training department to set up a data base of staff who vaccinate and develop a recall system for updates, ensuring that opportunities are provided for competencies to be maintained
