Job summary

In this role the postholder will manage and develop the Press and Media service for Health and Care Research Wales identifying and driving content generation from across our activities, promoting excellence in research and encouraging the public to get involved in research. They will operationally manage the pipeline of stories and content across our channels including online, print, campaigns, events and engagement, social and press releases to maximise our profile in national and regional press and broadcast outlets. Responsible for media handling, building relationships with local and national media, and providing media advice and support to all of the Health and Care Research Wales funded community.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead on external media relations, generating positive news coverage, building relationships with the media and handling media enquiries.
  • Develop a media strategy and positive news programme for increasing Health and Care Research Wales' presence on the national and international stage.
  • Lead on the identification and development of content, stories and case studies from across the Communications, Engagement and Public Involvement service that promote excellence in research across the Health and Care Research Wales and the Support & Delivery centre's work.
  • Edit and oversee production of all Health and Care Research Wales publications and marketing material.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient day to day running of media liaison, handling media and PR activities for Health and Care Research Wales and the Support & Delivery Centre.
  • Support development of media stories and cross promotion of activity across the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure, providing expert media support, advice and guidance for infrastructure groups.
  • Develop, manage and maintain media protocols including crisis communication plans and evaluation of reach and impact of stories and content (media monitoring).
  • Ensure all content and marketing material adheres to legislation including Accessibility and Welsh language requirements.

The post holder will have a base in one of the Cardiff, Brecon or Bangor offices (confirmed on recruitment) but will also be able to work from home.

  • Specialist knowledge and significant practical application of Media liaison and handling

  • Good understanding of the clinical research process, landscape and issues
  • Demonstrable understanding of insight and evaluation methods and their use in developing communications and engagement outputs
