Job summary

Is a career in Nursing all you have ever dreamed of? Make your dream a reality with us in Powys Teaching Health Board...

We are running a new initiative to invest in your future by paying for you to complete your degree without having to 'up sticks' and leave home. As part of a scheme to 'Grow our own' you will be supported to undertake a 3-year nursing degree with our partners in Llandrillo College and Bangor University. Not only will all your university fees be paid for, but you will also be employed on a full time Healthcare Support Workers salary for the duration of the academic programme, effectively earning while you're learning! Once you have successfully completed your nursing degree you will be guaranteed an entry level Registered Nurse job with PTHB.

In return we ask that you remain with us as a fully qualified Nurse for two years following your registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). During which time you will receive on-going professional development and support. Currently we have a number of entry level Band 2 & 3 roles available in both Adult and Mental Health settings, some of which you can apply for without prior nursing experience.

To make your dream become a reality, submit your application now or contact us on Clinical.Education.Powys@wales.nhs.uk for more information.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must reside within Powys.

Main duties of the job

Throughout your first year you will receive one day a week academic study delivered virtually (on-line) by Llandrillo College. The remaining 4 days will be spent working as a Healthcare Support Worker within a clinical setting, where you'll continue to receive a supportive programme of work to help achieve the required nursing proficiencies.

Years two and three, will see you released full-time from your HCSW duties, to undertake the remaining stages of your degree, studying virtually with Bangor University. With this dispersed learning model, not only will your clinical placements take place in Powys but some of your academic learning will too, with regular opportunities to meet tutors face-to-face within a Powys-based learning hub such as our newly refurbished, state of the art Health & Care Academy.

This is a program for people who live in Powys who want to train as a Registered Nurse in adult or mental health nursing. It supports you to start by gaining a level 4 qualification whilst working as a Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) and then go to university to study as a nurse without having to pay any course fees. You will also receive a salary, so you will 'earn as you learn'.

Your duties as a HCSW are detailed in the attached Job Description. As an Aspiring Nurse, you will be expected to commit fully to the academic program of learning and undertake all requirements of the course.
