Job summary
The Speech and Language Therapy Community Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Band 5 Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team in a full-time permanent post. This post will involve working across the Adult Learning Disability (ALD) Team and our Paediatric Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Team.
The ALD Team within the Community Speech and Language Therapy Team provides assessment and treatment of communication and dysphagia for patients with a learning disability need in the community, working collaboratively with the patient their families and carers as part of the integrated community learning disability team. The successful candidate will also provide training in communication and dysphagia to patients, their carers and their families as required.
The Paediatric ALN team work across 3 special school sites. The team provide assessment and interventions and work closely with families and education colleagues.
The successful applicant will support the service development and transition of patients from ALN to ALD services.
As a successful candidate, you will have a recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree and HCPC registration. We will consider applications from final year Speech and Language Therapy students. We would consider appointing the successful candidate on reduced hours and at a band 4 until completion of their degree course and full qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist is obtained.
Main duties of the job
- You will work with Team Leaders and colleagues in the adult and paediatric community Speech and Language Therapy services to ensure equity, efficiency and dynamic service delivery.
- You will have the opportunity to develop the skills required to workindependently with children and adults who have communication needs and swallowing disorders within the ALN/ALD services.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for a caseload of patients with complex health and social care needs which may include mental health, physical disability, dysphagia, communication needs and complex behaviour.
- With support, you will organise, plan and prioritise your own workload, and develop appropriate strategies for caseload management.
- You will be able to deliver comprehensive communication and/or dysphagia reports or management plans in the context of multi-disciplinary working.
- You will provide placements for Speech & Language Therapy students.
- You will supervise and provide safe delegation to non-qualified staff, including Speech and Language Therapy assistants.
- You will be involved in projects which contribute to service development.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
