Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

Consultant Physician with an interest in Renal Medicine

The closing date is 23 February 2026

Job summary

Applications are invited for this post based at the Wrexham Maelor District General Hospital. The appointee will make up a team of five Consultant Nephrologists contributing to a one in five renal on call rota. This post has arisen from plans to strengthen and improve our existing services and replace a colleague who has moved. The post holder would be part of the team providing a comprehensive renal service except for acute transplantation. We are responsible for around 130 haemodialysis in three dialysis units and in the region of 50 home therapies patients and 190 transplant patients. The Renal Ward has 25 beds including a four bed high care area. Acute dialysis and plasma exchange can be provided on the ward. As a Specialty training site with two specialty trainees we are keen that the post holder be actively involved in training and there is an opportunity to take on the practical skills lead within the department. Candidates with special interests in dialysis access, transplantation, and haemodialysis would be particularly welcomed.

Other sub-specialty interests would also be considered and we would like to emphasise the indicative job plan can be modified to suit the successful applicant. There is no GIM on call component but the post holder would be involved in the care of GIM inpatients.

Main duties of the job
