Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join the Children's Outpatients small and friendly team at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
Wrexham Children's Outpatients is a busy and progressive paediatric department providing outpatient care for children and young people from birth to 16-18 years for a wide range of specialities.
The department has 5/6 consultant clinic rooms and holds clinic Monday to Friday.
We offer both Medical and Nursing-Led clinics, as well as Dietetic-Led Clinics, and hold several Visiting Consultant Clinics.
The department also operates a very busy phlebotomy service for paediatric GP and Hospital patients.
Your role will involve direct patient contact with children, young people and their families, working as part of the MDT, assisting to process patients prior to their appointments and supporting our blood service.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, approachable and highly motivated person with a passion to work with children and their families.
The successful applicant will be able to work confidently, independently, and have the ability to be flexible, professional, caring and compassionate, and a willingness to learn and further develop within a supportive environment.

Main duties of the job
Work as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to children and young people within a paediatric outpatient setting under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional
Key duties will include: assisting with patient flow, acting as a chaperone, taking patient observations & measurements, performing clinical tasks such as: venepuncture, ECG's, HbA1c & Blood Glucose investigations, providing support during cannulation of patients, Urinalysis and Specimen collection. Assisting to manage blood service appointments, general face to face and telephone queries from families and other staff/departments
Maintain patient's privacy and dignity at all times and provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner
Contribute to housekeeping and other department duties as required.
Reporting to a registered nurse if there is cause for concern with a patient/family's physical health or mental and emotional wellbeing
Maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children, young people, and their families
Contribute to ensuring the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes
Assist to support the learning and supervision of students and junior staff
Ensure role and practice is delivered in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values, procedures/guidelines and Code of Conduct for HCSW's in Wales
