Job summary

We are currently seeking a full time Consultant Haematologist based at Glan Clwyd Hospital to be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team. We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to excellence in service delivery. All candidates should be competent in managing patients with Haematological disorders.The Haematology Service is constantly evolving and this post, in conjunction with existing and new posts, will support the development of the North Wales Haematology Service.We encourage and welcome applications from colleagues who have any specialist interests.Beyond clinical duties, there are opportunities to contribute to education and research as well as leadership functions.

Main duties of the job

Key tasks include:o To provide specialist Haematology Services to the population served with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate subspecialties and to be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams.o To develop a site specialist and research interest on both hospital sites. This will include developing clinical research and entering patients into appropriate National and International studies.o To provide a weekly ward round for inpatient cover.o To work closely with clinical Consultant colleagues and to provide seamless Haematologist care for all patients.o To work closely with colleagues in other Divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between the different disciplines and during the patient's journey.o To liaise with colleagues in Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for Haematology patients.o To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence-based medicine.o To participate in audit and teaching.o To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME)

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview
  • Appropriate experience in training at SpR/SR level grade posts
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • FRCPath or equivalent

Desirable

  • Higher Degree
  • A haematology sub-speciality interest
  • Experience in teaching, clinical audit
  • Participating in and leading multidisciplinary teams
