Job summary

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 24 MONTHS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

An opportunity has arisen for a role to support the eye clinic liaison officer. This role is at band 3 and is for 21 hours a week. This is a fixed term for 2 years, with a possibility of further extension, as funding for this role is provided by Access to Work.

This support will develop and enhance the efficiency of the ECLO service. The role will be involve work with computers therefore computer literacy is essential, using basic Microsoft word, Excel packages and using hospital computer packages such as WPAS and EPRO. Full training will be provided by BCUHB for the latter 2 hospital data packages.

The candidate should have a good level of empathy for disability and be willing to work closely with the ECLO who is severely sight impaired. There may be an element of guidance required in mobility in situations where a guide dog is unable to attend and is restricted to proceed due to infection control. Full mobility guidance training can be provided by Guide Dogs Charity.

The candidate will be required to work with supervision from ECLO and will be answerable to the line manager of the department.

Confidentiality is essential and compliance with BCUHB GDPR policies be adhered at all times.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be asked to type up dictated reports, record patient activity on hospital computer database packages and file report in the patient notes.

The successful candidate will be required to send out literature as instructed by ECLO to the appropriate patient home address

Make future appointments and read referrals and clinic letter to the ECLO for him to interpret measurements, such as patient visual acuities.

Do some of the existing filing, by either ordering patient notes or attending the medical records library.

Be present at ECLO meetings and take notes if instructed.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
