Job summary
Acute medicine in Wrexham is changing. We currently have six substantive acute physicians and two long term locums, with subspecialty interests in Respiratory Medicine, Nephrology and Clinical Pharmacology. The acute medicine team is responsible for the medical intake 8am - 5pm throughout the week, with support from the GIM rota in the evenings and at the weekends. There is a focus on ambulatory care with two ANPs and clinical hub nurse in place to support. There are plans in place to expand the ANP team.
Successful candidates will be responsible for providing senior leadership and management working alongside our trainees and other healthcare professionals. They will work between the front door, ambulatory area, the trolley bay, and the assessment ward providing excellent clinical care for our acutely unwell patients. They will provide training and supervision for our staff and play a key role in this exciting service development.
This is a fixed term contract.
Main duties of the job
Duties
1. Take a lead for development of ambulatory care, specialty in-reach or other service developments2. Provide a consultant service for outpatients and inpatients at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.3. Take part in the Acute Medical out of hours cover.4. Participate in departmental meetings, audit and clinical governance activity (including appraisal and revalidation).5. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and in close liaison with consultant colleagues in Directorates of Medicine.6. Develop strong working links with primary care in an effort to reduce unnecessary admissions7. Perform a prominent role in undergraduate education in particular clinical history taking and clinical examination. Medical students will be attached to the clinical team on-call during each 24 hour period.
