Emergency Care Ward Clerk

Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a part time (16 hour) Band 2 Ward Clerk to support the Emergency Care Directorate at Ysbyty Gwynedd.

It is essential that the applicant has knowledge of secretarial or administrative procedures and systems and possesses a high level of computer skills including Microsoft Office, WPAS and iFit; and a good telephone manner. A flexible approach to work is needed to meet the demands of the service.

You will possess excellent time management skills, be well organised and have the ability to prioritise workload demands to meet strict deadlines, whilst producing work to the highest standards.

You will also have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, using discretion, judgment and initiative. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential together with a keen eye for detail, with the ability to process and generate urgent and routine correspondence.

Candidates must be able to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a high standard of customer care at all times.

The ability to speak Welsh to a minimum Level 3 is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

The EC Ward Clerk will be responsible for providing a professional, efficient, accurate and prompt administrative/clerical service to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) and Acute Medical Unit (AMU) to ensure the speedy admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

By the nature of the duties, the Ward Clerk will be required to maintain strict confidentiality and will be expected to deal with patients and relatives with courtesy and discretion at all times.

For accountability and development purposes, the Ward Clerk will be under the direct responsibility of the Service Support Manager - Emergency Care.
