Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to work as a Clinical Team Leader in the Adult Community Service across Conwy and Denbighshire.

There are opportunities to work as a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist within the Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy Team and/or to be the Operational Line Manager for the team.

The role will involve the following sessions:

  • Team Leader (2 sessions per week)
  • Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (8 sessions per week)

The Team Leader post holder will be responsible for all elements of operational line management of staff members working within their team (including but not limited to day to day support and queries, carrying out regular management supervision with staff members, supporting the team and services to develop) and will be directly involved in recruitment exercises within the team.

The clinical aspect of the post will involve holding a highly specialist clinical caseload and will be responsible for identifying opportunities for service development and redesign to meet the changing population need.

The adult community service provides assessment and treatment of patients with various aetiologies including Parkinson's Disease, dementia, stroke and MND neurological conditions in domiciliary, outpatient and community hospital settings. The team also provide regular training to registered nurses and carers as well as feed into specific MDT clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the friendly and supportive SLT Leadership and Management group. A full range of support and training will be available.

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Directly line managing a team of SLTs working within the adult services working together with the Head and Deputy Head of Service and colleagues to support equitable service provision and development.
  • Using demonstrable coaching and facilitative skills to support and enable the team to provide high quality clinical services and to think outside of traditional boundaries of service provision and development.
  • Working with other SLT staff e.g. clinical leads in key service areas, to ensure operational and clinical service development are joined together.
  • Leadership and strategic oversight of service areas to provide equitability and accessibility of support and timely intervention.
  • Leadership and intervention within community adult services with complex needs
  • Responding innovatively to service pressures and prioritising service activities according to local needs.
  • Supervision and support of SLT colleagues and other professionals in order to facilitate their development and mobilise their skills.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
