The post will be based in the community between the Two West teams. The exact breakdown of cover and location can of work can be agreed depending on the preference of the candidate and their area of residence.
The post will provide medical support to the community teams on a full-time basis working closely with the current, SAS and Specialist doctors.
The post holder will be encouraged to obtain and maintain section 12(2) approval of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) and Approved Clinician status in Wales in order to participate in the on call rota for MHLD and to undertake assessments in the community, police custody, 136 suites.
The on call is 1 in 13.
This is a fixed term position.
Main duties of the job
This post will be based in the West area with clinical input into both the community teams agreed with the successful candidate.
The post involves close MDT working with no individual case load but rather providing medical input and reviews for those open to substance misuse services.
The post holder will be expected to work to the BCU substance misuse prescribing guidelines for both inpatient and community sessions.
Clinical duties will include liaison with neighbouring CMHT's, inpatient wards (both psychiatric and at the local DGH's) clinical support to the alcohol liaison service and attendance at multi-disciplinary team meetings.
The post holder will work collaboratively and supportively with any trainee doctor placed at times in the SMS community teams and assist with his/her education including workplace based assessments.
He/she will act independently within their sphere of expertise of Substance Misuse.
Sessions will be community based within the SMS community teams carrying out patient reviews and providing appropriate investigations and interventions including treatment initiation, monitoring, and planning of both inpatient and outpatient detoxification plans.
He/she will be expected to see any patients for urgent review who have been discharged early from the ward, new patients and prison releases so providing continuity of care across the urgent and inpatient care pathway.
