Job summary

Main duties of the job

To advise, provide and direct staff in how to proceed in the management of complex cases.
Deliver high quality, evidenced based clinical care.
To provide specialist diagnostic or other assessments as appropriate
To act as the main link with partner services.
Form a supportive relationship with Service Users and their families.
Offer direction, advice, support and consultation to other professionals and members of the clinical team.
To carry out regular clinical supervision with staff within professional group as allocated to ensure safe practice.

Job responsibilities

To ensure staff adherence to relevant Health Board policies / protocols to maintain the integrity of the service.

Contribute to workforce planning.

To provide advice to staff on areas where further guidance is required.

To conduct staff PDRs and ensure all staff have KSF post outlines and that these outlines are regularly reviewed and acted upon.

To be familiar with and uphold the required standards of the registering professional body and ensure these standards are maintained in staff you have responsibility for.

To provide and maintain supervision records.

Ensure that staff collect and provide clinical and statistical information as required by the Health Board to ensure good communication and high levels of accountability exist.

To provide operational management for all staff within the team on a day to day basis and ensure clinical supervision arrangements are in place for those staff not directly clinically supervised by the post holder.

To ensure the allocation of cases, duties and responsibilities at all times including occasions where there is a need to provide cover during times of long term sickness, maternity leave etc.

To be lead on the development of systems and processes to ensure the efficient working of the team.

To manage the staff rota and work-plans for the service area.

To lead on service development and redesign initiatives and developments to enhance local working practices.

To act as a representative for the service manager at meetings or for developments as allocated.

To facilitate teams in clinical governance activities including clinical audit in conjunction with clinical and professional leads.

To monitor and manage staff activity to meet agreed targets and identify and rectify variation and quality issues.

Work in a flexible way to meet the needs of the service.

Produce high quality reports in relation to the service.

To monitor incidents and complaints and take appropriate action as required.

Approve training and ensure this is in line with CPD, PDR or service needs.

Provide sickness absence management including conducting informal and formal sickness interview, return to work interviews, making referrals to occupational health where appropriate, undertake pregnancy workplace risk assessments etc.

Manage the department/ward budget as delegated by the Service Manager. Sign time sheets and travel expenses along with course approval and changes forms and agree and sign annual leave and special leave forms.

Effectively manage the teams and individuals performance and outcomes in compliance with BCU policies and procedures.

Deal with complaints according to the Health Boards policy.

To ensure that the team delivers a quality service within the allocated budget.

Effectively manage the service area budget including cost efficiencies.

Ensure service users are fully engaged in all areas of service planning, delivery and audit including the recruitment of all front line staff.

Support the service modernisation and changes as part of an ongoing process.
