Job summary

A vacancy has arisen for a substantive Specialty Registrar in Trauma & Orthopaedics and we invite applications. Four of our Registrars have recently passed FRCS (TR & Orth) and three of them have recently left for fellowships.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team of ten other Registrars, and will partake in the trauma on-call rota. The hard-working, highly motivated, dedicated team of Consultants, medical and nursing staff, provide a high quality, modern service in a rapidly developing unit. The Department provides elective and emergency in-patient, day-case and outpatient services to a catchment area of approximately 240,000 residents.

  • Ability to provide a complete employment history
  • 48 months in Trauma & Orthopaedics not including foundation modules
  • Broad Based experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics
  • 4 years post graduate experience

Desirable

  • Previous Specialty Doctor experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics Surgery

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • Satisfy UK/EEA Immigration regulations or eligible for work permit

Basic Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • General medical procedures and skills appropriate to the grade
  • Supervision and teaching of junior doctors and nursing staff
  • Ability to know when to ask for help
  • Ability to apply knowledge
  • Ability to write relevant, legible clinical notes.
  • Safe and effective oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to involve patients in their management.
  • Ability to handle interviews with patients or relatives with tact and sensitivity
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable

  • Competent in providing Trauma & Orthopaedics Emergency On-call at Middle Grade level
  • Additional experience in Trauma & Orthopaedics surgery
  • Advanced IT Skills including knowledge of web site authoring.
  • Clinical experience outside specialty.
