This role is one of three new opportunities based out of Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

As a Lead Pharmacy Technician, you will play a pivotal role in providing professional leadership, governance, and strategic development for pharmacy services across the IHC.

Key priorities will include:

  • Leading and supporting pharmacy services within the East IHC
  • Driving innovation to improve operational efficiencies
  • Developing and mentoring staff to enhance professional growth
  • Aligning pharmacy services with "Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales"
  • Supporting strategic projects to modernise pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

Strategically and/or operationally manage the senior pharmacy technicians, technical and support staff involved in the provision of the Health Board's medicines management service, (ensuring a robust service is in place.)

Provide leadership for the primary care and community services team, acting as a senior departmental manager.

Deputise for and support the Head and Deputy of Pharmacy for Primary Care and Community services and/or Chief Pharmacy Technician in the overall management and delivery of Pharmacy Services.

Strategically and operationally manage the education, training, and development of all technical and support staff within the department.

Establish and monitor a comprehensive training infrastructure for technical staff across the department.

Lead on identifying, developing, and implementing a variety of cost-saving, transformational and quality improvement projects across the health board and local healthcare system.

Contribute to and lead on the investigation of incidents relating to primary care and community services utilising the Datix system.

Line manage staff and ensure all staff receive individual performance reviews and support identified objectives and training requirements.

Provide leadership into the recruitment and selection of new staff. Maintain high professional standards at all times and ensure compliance with statutory regulations concerning pharmaceuticals and the provisions of the Health and Safety at work Act.
