Job summary

To be responsible to the Head of Clinical Engineering for the effective delivery of photography (clinical and non-clinical) to BCUHB, whilst ensuring the maintenance of specialist photographic services, to the highest standards.

To maintain expertise as a specialist clinical photographer across a range of disciplines.

To undertake all aspects of clinical photography for diagnosis, record teaching, research and medico-legal purposes.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Work with the Head of Clinical Engineering and in the strategic planning and future development of the service, participate in the business planning process.

Lead and co-ordinate the design and implementation of the imaging procedures and workflow used in clinical photography and graphic design.

Provide expert advice to departmental colleagues and other healthcare professional to ensure methods, techniques and equipment are appropriate for the tasks required.

Represent the Medical Illustration Service at Clinical / Board and BCUHB meetings when requested.

Maintain expertise as a specialist clinical photographer across a range of disciplines, undertake all aspects of clinical photography for diagnosis, record teaching, research and medico-legal purposes.

Maintain documentation and records, undertake customer feedback evaluation, attend management review team meetings etc. to support the department's certification under ISO9001.

Manage Medical Illustration staff including assigning and reviewing work, appraisals and CPD.

To ensure the implementation and monitoring of the on-job training of trainee medical photographers. Ensure that senior clinical photographers implement training regimes.

Maintain, in conjunction with the health board's Information Technology department, a networked computer system for the secure storage and delivery of clinical and non-clinical images across BCUHB.

  • Masters Qualification in relevant subject area or equivalent level of experience
  • Post graduate certificate in Clinical Photography

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of clinical photography in all clinical environments and a sound knowledge of clinical conditions, anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrate details knowledge of appropriate legislation surrounding consent, copyright and data protection.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of current trends in the NHS and Medical Photography profession.
