Dietetic Assistants assist Registered Dietitians to provide services by helping to ensure nutritional care plans are followed, carrying out reviews and also related tasks, including administration to support the broader nutrition and dietetics service from within hospitals and in the community. The Dietetic team undertake a range of activities such as outpatient clinics and staff and patient education sessions.

This role is based within the Paediatric team and the role of the Dietetic Assistant is broad and diverse.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  1. To liaise with hospital in-patients, out-patients, care settings, ward staff, catering staff and dietitians in order to help ensure patients receive correct therapeutic diet , including modified menus, sip feeds , food supplements and snacks.
  2. To provide direct and non-direct support to individual patients and carers under supervision of a Registered Dietitian. This will involve face to face contacts and phone calls; recording biochemistry, weight, height, appetite, nutrition screening outcome and checking compliance with treatment plans within departmental guidelines.
  3. To exercise good personal time management through the effective organisation and prioritisation of allocated workload.

You will also assist with tasks related to dietetic care such as administration, managing essential resources and home enteral feed discharge systems.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 e.g. NVQ related to Health & Social Care, or working towards, (or equivalent); Documented evidence of participation in training activities

Desirable

  • Membership of professional body and/or special interest group. Degree in nutrition related subject. Food hygiene certificate

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the role of the Dietitian. Relevant experience working within health, social or education settings.
