Job summary

Please Note - this vacancy is for either a Trainee or Trained Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP).

Practising autonomously as an Emergency Nurse Practitionerand providing optimum care for patients presenting with undifferentiated and un-diagnosed injuries/illnesses, and responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care is provided to all patients.

To hold clinical responsibility for autonomously assessing, examining,diagnosing and managing/discharging patients attending the EmergencyDepartment, within the scope of practice of the Emergency Nurse Practitioner.

To give specialist advice as required within the department to outsideagencies and the general public.

Is responsible for the safe discharge of the patients from the EmergencyDepartment or to other specialties e.g., Orthopaedic/ Medicalward/Paediatrics/ENT without reference to a Doctor.

Provides Specialist Education and Training to junior doctors, medical &nursing students on the Emergency Practitioner Course and other staffmembers.

Regularly undertakes Research and Development activities as part of role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Please Note - this vacancy is for either a Trainee or Trained Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP).

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professionalpractice including the management of patients in your care.

To demonstrate Specialist Knowledge as a Nurse Practitioner, across arange of clinical procedures that is underpinned by theoretical knowledgeand experience.

The Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) will have extended skills toorder the appropriate clinical investigations to support initial diagnosise.g. x-rays, blood tests.

To interpret and analyse clinical data.

The ENP has the authority to refer to on call specialist teams, i.e., Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, Medical, Paediatrics andENT.

To prescribe, administer and supply medication as an independentprescriber (without reference to a Doctor) or the use of PGD's (administerand supply an approved list of medicines according to locally agreedpatient group directions).

To undertake special projects as delegated by the Matron such as casereview.

Facilitate the teaching and training of junior staff and new nursepractitioners.

Complex facts or situations, requiring analysis, interpretation, comparisonor a range of options.

Skills for assessing and interpreting specialist acute & other patientconditions, appropriate action.

Prescribe medication as detailed in personal formulary.

Act as a Team Leader for Emergency Nurse Practitioners .
