Clinical Fellow Trauma and Orthopaedics

Glan Clwyd Hospital - 2 x 12 months fixed term

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is the largest Health Board in Wales which provides integrated primary & secondary care health services to the population of North Wales. Acute services are provided by the three District General Hospitals - Glan Clwyd centrally, Wrexham Maelor in the east, and Ysbyty Gwynedd in the west.

Glan Clwyd Hospital is a modern District General Hospital sited just off the A55 trunk road in central North Wales. A comprehensive £100+ million refurbishment & redevelopment is due to be completed in 2019. This redevelopment will facilitate the development of the hospital as the hub for a number of specialised health services in North Wales, including Vascular Surgery, Invasive Cardiology and PCI, as well as the Neonatal Intensive Care Centre.

Main duties of the job

Major developments completed to date include a new Emergency Department (ED) & Emergency Quarter (EQ), which includes a new acute Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) & Acute Medical admissions Unit (AMU). There are 11 new 'state of the art' operating theatres with a new adjacent 27 bedded Day of Surgery Arrivals (DOSA) Unit. There is a new 18 bedded Adult Intensive & Critical Care Unit co-located adjacent to the new theatre complex and directly above the Emergency Department.

The Trauma service is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital and consists of Trauma Clinics and Trauma Theatre sessions.

Elective Orthopaedics is at present based at Abergele Hospital, which is approximately 6 miles from the main hospital base. The Orthopaedic services at Abergele Hospital consist of elective in-patient and theatre sessions. However, it is likely that there would be a gradual transfer of elective services to the base hospital in the future. Elective Clinics are held at Glan Clwyd hospital and at several Community Hospitals.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
