Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, working at Band 6. The post holder will work within the Early Years team across Conwy and Denbighshire as well as SSLD services (Conwy), working with partners in Conwy Education Services to provide intensive services for children with severe speech and language disorders. This is a 0.8 (30 hours) permanent post. With 4 session Early Years and 4 sessions SSLD.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with experience of working with children and young people with speech and language disorders. Experience of working with preschool and school-aged children, in a range of settings is desirable for this role. The role would be suitable for Speech and Language Therapists keen for development opportunities.

The successful applicant will have excellent time and caseload management skills, as well as an ability to build a strong rapport with parents and the wider workforce. They will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with colleagues. The successful applicant will have an interest in service development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

• You will work with Team Leaders and colleagues in pre-school and school-aged Speech and Language Therapy services to ensure equity, efficiency and dynamic service delivery.
• You will work with a varied Paediatric caseload, with the opportunity to work with preschool and school-aged children, in a range of settings including preschool settings, and Primary and Secondary mainstream schools.
• You will be responsible for assessing, and designing intervention for children on your caseload.
• You will have the opportunity to work directly with children and young people as well as provide training, advice and support to school staff and the wider workforce.
• You will work in partnership with families and professionals to support the needs of the children on your caseload.
• Working in collaboration with your SLT colleagues in the team, you will provide assessment for children with severe speech and language disorders, using your assessments to design intervention programmes for delivery by Specialist Teaching Assistant colleagues.
• Working in collaboration with your SLT colleague in the team, you will provide support and supervision for specialist Teaching Assistants providing therapy and intervention for children with severe speech and language disorders.
• You will be involved in projects which contribute to service development
• You will offer support to colleagues and partner agencies to develop knowledge and skills in working with children with speech and language disorders.
