Job summary
This post is for a cardiology trainee who wishes to gain experience in inpatient and outpatient cardiology and have the opportunity to gain skills in echocardiography and cardiac catheterisation. The applicant should have completed core medical training CT2 and should have obtained their MRCP or equivalent.
The North Wales Cardiac Centre does approximately 1000 PCI cases per year including being the regional centre for primary angioplasty.
The post is based at the North Wales Cardiac Centre (NWCC) at Glan Clwyd Hospital which has responsibilities for patients across the Health Board. The North Wales Cardiac Centre is part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) and provides cardiology services for the population of North Wales (approx. 700,000). It is staffed by consultant cardiologists based in all three District General Hospitals along with consultants from radiology providing cardiac intervention and imaging. This post will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital.
Main duties of the job
- Assist the consultant cardiologists and other members of the department in providing a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient cardiology service.
- Provide medical support the cardiac care unit and cardiology ward with F1 and CT doctors.
- Assess patients pre and post cardiology procedures.
- Learn echocardiography and cardiac catheterisation procedures.
- Provide support to DSE sessions - 1 to 2 per week.
- Undertake inpatient cardiology referrals.
- Undertake cardiology clinics - two to three per week.
- Contributions to local undergraduate and postgraduate activity.
- Participation in clinical audit, continuing professional development and clinical governance activities.
- Development of research and professional interests.
- Participate in the acute medical (GIM) on calls.
