Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated band 5 medicines management technician to join our pharmacy team in the Emergency Quadrant. Our team provides pharmaceutical care to the patients in the Emergency department, Acute Medicine Unit, Surgical Assessment Unit and Same Day Emergency Care to ensure that patients do not have any delays in their medications.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake medicine management duties at ward level and must have excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to use your initiative and work well as part of a busy team and be confident to work alone.

You will be responsible for the supervision of junior or less experienced staff and you must be able to manage your own workload to ensure the provision of a timely and efficient pharmacy service.

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (QCF) or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Medicines management.
  • National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician or work towards within first 18 months
  • National Accredited Medicines Management Qualification or work towards within first 18 months
  • BTEC Lv 4 in clinical services (or equivalent) or work towards within first 18 months
  • Specialist Medicines Management training to degree level acquired through additional training, or equivalent level of experience gained within medicines management and prescribing support role

Desirable

  • Membership of relevant professional Association
  • Accredited NVQ Assessor
  • IT Proficiency
  • Leadership/Management qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate suitable level of experience
  • General dispensing
  • Experience of patient-orientated medicines systems
  • Basic knowledge of the therapeutic use of drugs

  • Working in hospital or Community pharmacy dispensary services
  • Good understanding of operation of hospital pharmacy services
  • Primary care experience
