Job summary
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board wishes to employ a consultant Anaesthetist to be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital. This is a 12-month fixed-term post for a general consultant anaesthetist.
The vacancy is full-time, comprising an average of 37.5 hours per week, equating to 10 sessions (as per the consultant contract for Wales). 8 sessions will be allocated to direct clinical care (DCC), with 2 sessions for supporting professional activities (SPA).
Direct clinical care includes delivering anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialties, according to the experience of the successful applicant and the requirements of the service. This is likely to include travel a short distance away to Abergele hospital, where elective orthopaedic and ophthalmic services are provided. The agreed clinical work may also be in areas aligned to anaesthesia such as pre-operative assessment clinic, supporting the inpatient pain service or attending multidisciplinary meetings.
Main duties of the job
We are a friendly and dynamic department consisting of approximately 30 consultants, 12 specialists and specialty doctors, together with around 25 junior doctors including clinical fellows and HEIW trainees. We have long-standing links with paediatric intensive care services in Liverpool, and offer anaesthetic clinical fellowships to senior PICU trainees. We have locally-trained Advanced Critical Care Practitioners. The largest operating suite is at the main hospital site - Glan Clwyd Hospital (YGC).The theatre complex, which is less than 10 years old, has twelve operating theatres, supported by two recovery areas and a large purpose-built Day of Surgical Arrivals (DOSA) unit. Four theatres - 2 orthopaedic and 2 ophthalmic - also run at our second site in Abergele.The obstetric department is on the Glan Clwyd site, close to main theatres and ITU.We provide a 24-hour analgesia and anaesthesia service to the delivery suite.We provide anaesthesia forElectroconvulsive therapy,Community dental services,Ophthalmology,Magnetic resonance imaging (with facilities for general anaesthesia or sedation),Interventional radiology and gastroenterology procedures
