Job summary

We are seeking aClinical/PractitionerPsychologist who is passionate about promoting the emotional health and well-being of children and young people with acute and chronic health conditions, including diabetes.This post is being advertised as a Band8abut we invite less experienced applicants to apply with a view to starting on Band 7with acommitmentto develop into the Band 8a role.

You would join our lively,proactivePaediatric Psychology Service in ABUHB with services in General Paediatrics, Diabetes,Recovery from Illness,andPaediatric Weight Management.There are three days available in Paediatric Diabetes and two days available in General Paediatric Psychology. Within General Paediatric Psychologythere are opportunities for you to develop your own specialism in line withyour interests andthe needsof the service.

The Paediatric Psychology Service sits within the wider Child and Family Psychology and Therapies Service which offers a rich and varied context of Psychologists working into many different areas with a wide range of specialisms, models, and experiences.We have a goodtrack recordof developing Psychologist's careers and there are often opportunities to link with other areas of the service.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with your psychology, medical and AHP colleagues to deliver a clinical service to children, young people and their families who are coping with the impact of a health condition in their lives in a needs-led way; through direct clinical work, consultation, teaching, and training as well as developing resources and supporting staff teams on an in-patient and out-patient basis.

The successful candidate will conduct and supervise research and audit, and develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes, as a major responsibility of the job. The post holder will also be able to contribute to the development of new psychological services for children withhealth conditionsandparticipatein service planning asappropriate.

  • HCPC Registered.
  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent accredited by the BPS.

  • Other related academic qualifications
  • IT skills training

Experience

  • Doctorate training across a range of client groups but must include Children.
  • Significant experience of working with children with chronic health conditions and their families.
